FAQ

Common questions about the Dallas Children’s Chorus, from the DSCC-to-DCC transition to grade levels, auditions, and funding.

If your child loves to sing and is ready to grow as a musician, the Dallas Children’s Chorus offers an exceptional opportunity to develop their voice, build musical skills, and sing alongside other young singers who share their passion for music. Our choristers come from schools and communities across North Texas and represent a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Through their shared love of music, they build friendships, learn from one another, and form connections with peers they might not otherwise have the opportunity to meet.

As the official children’s chorus of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Children’s Chorus (known as the Dallas Symphony Children’s Chorus until the 2027/28 season) offers young singers distinctive opportunities to perform with a world-class symphony orchestra while developing the skills and confidence to reach their full potential. Whether your child is taking the next step in their musical journey or aspiring to advanced choral performance, there is a place for them here. No prior singing experience is required for Training Choir or Symphonic Voices, so singers at any level are welcome to audition. The Dallas Children’s Chorus is a place to learn, grow, and make music together.
Yes. The DCC is the official children’s chorus of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and choristers regularly have the opportunity to perform alongside the DSO. The DCC was founded by the DSO in 2022 as its children’s chorus, under the name Dallas Symphony Children’s Chorus, and will take on the Dallas Children’s Chorus name beginning with the 2027/28 season.
No. The transition affects the DCC’s organizational structure and name only — the same staff, curriculum, Lovers Lane United Methodist Church location, and rehearsal schedule continue without change.
The DCC offers a multi-tiered curriculum for singers in grades 4–12. Students are assigned to one of our three choruses based on audition performance, voice (changed or unchanged treble voice), age, and experience.
No prior experience is required to join Training Choir or Symphonic Voices — singers simply need to pass an audition. Prior experience isn’t required for Mixed Ensemble either, though it is preferred, and auditioning students will need to prepare a song.
The DCC is a fully independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, funded through tuition, ticket sales, and the generosity of individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners. We are very appreciative of the support we receive from all our donors.
The DCC offers tuition assistance to families with demonstrated financial need. A tuition assistance application is included in the welcome packet sent at the beginning of each concert season. Please reach out to us at chorus@dalcc.org if you have further questions.
